MBA is preparing an Environmental Impact Report/Environmental
Assessment (EIR/EA) for a Master Plan which will guide the
design and development of a 115 acre sport park facility,
and a site plan defining the range of improvements to be built
in the first phase, tentatively scheduled to open in 2004.
The sports park would be located on City-owned land near the
Redlands Municipal Airport and the Santa Ana River. First
phase park improvements would include: lighted ball fields
and soccer fields, batting cages, volleyball courts, a multi-sport
indoor pavilion, a pedestrian/equestrian trail, a snack bar/restaurant,
playground, parking, landscaping and administrative and maintenance
facilities. Additional flood control improvements will also
be completed within an existing storm water detention basin
that was built to capture runoff from the sports park and
recently developed land in the surrounding area.
The project also includes
establishment of a habitat conservation area for the federally
endangered San Bernardino kangaroo rat, which may be impacted
by development of the sports park. MBA is preparing a Biological
Assessment of the impacted area and the conservation site,
and is processing a Section 7 Permit, under the federal Endangered
Species Act.
