Holm Mentors Young Leaders in the Inland Empire

MBA’s Southern California Vice President, Thomas F. Holm, AICP, was chosen as the first ever Urban Land Institute’s Inland Empire Division “60 Minute Mentor.” Addressing a packed boardroom at the firm’s San Bernardino office, Tom discussed his career challenges and highlights and provided insight into the steps required to achieve success in the field of environmental planning. The meeting lasted significantly past the one hour mark as the assembled crowd asked numerous questions. A long-time ULI member, Tom earned a Master’s degree in Urban Planning (Environmental Policy and Management) from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine, where he majored in Political Science. He is a former Planning Commissioner and Transportation/Traffic Commissioner and serves as Legislative Liaison and Board member for the Orange County Chapter of the American Planning Association.


Norton Inspires at OC Career Day

MBA’s Inland Empire Director of Environmental Services, Kent Norton, AICP, REA recently participated in a Career Day at McPherson Magnet School in the Orange Unified School District in Orange County. McPherson Magnet School is a K-8 school focusing on a science and mathematics curriculum. Norton spoke to six different classes of students in grades 4 through 8 and discussed environmental planning as a career. The students were inspired by the interactive presentation which included Kangaroo rat traps with stuffed animals to illustrate humane trapping techniques and maps of recent MBA projects crossed by rivers and the San Andreas Fault.


Hickman and Wilson speak at Fontana Career Day

In support of the City of Fontana, MBA’s James Hickman (Natural Resources Management) and Cori Wilson (Air Quality Management) presented at Harry S. Truman Middle School Career Day February 23rd. Over 1,250 students participated in this annual event designedHickman to stimulate interest in college and professional careers.MBA’s presentation included a looping Powerpoint featuring staff performing various biological tasks in the field, as well as a display of animal skeletal remains. MBA has been honored to be a participant in this event since it’s inception by ASB Director, Pamela H. Deer, four years ago.
